The other trademarks, service marks and logos displayed in the Website are registered and unregistered trademarks of Makita and others.

Nothing contained on this Makita site should be construed as granting, by implication, estoppel, or otherwise, any license or right to use any trademark displayed on this site without the written permission of Makita or such third party that owns the trademark.

  1. Privacy Policy

    Thank you for your interest in our products and for visiting www.makita.co.nz.

    Makita New Zealand Ltd (Makita) has created this privacy statement in order to demonstrate our commitment to your privacy because we understand when accessing our website or interfacing with us online, the privacy and confidentiality of personal information is important to our customers. The following explains what information we gather from you when you go to our website, how we use and protect that information and how you can contact us for more information.

    This Privacy Policy complies with the requirements of the New Zealand Privacy Act 1993. This privacy policy is governed by and is to be interpreted in accordance with the laws of New Zealand.

  2. Other policies applying to our services

    In addition to this privacy policy, our Legal Disclaimer applies to use of our services. Please read it in conjunction with this policy, it is important that you are also familiar with our legal disclaimer as it includes our site management rights. If you are a Makita customer, Makita’s Terms and Conditions will also apply to your use of Makita products and services.

  3. Visitors to our website and data collection

    If you are just surfing and reading information on our website, then we collect and store the following information about your visit:

    • The IP address of your machine when connected to the Internet
    • The operating system and the browser your computer uses
    • The date and time you are visiting
    • The URLs of the pages you visit
    • If you provide it, your email address

    We use that information to measure the number of visitors to different parts of the site and, for example, to measure the effectiveness of advertising. The data is also captured so that we can accurately evaluate the quality of our content and make improvements for you.

    If you choose to provide us with personal information such as your email address, for example, by filling out an electronic form on our website including MyMakita or Makita Club Newsletter registration, we will use the information you have provided only for the purposes that you have authorised under this policy or via the website.

    Email marketing will only be sent to your email address if you have given your consent. To update your personal information, such as billing or email address, you can contact us by email or phone.

    When applying to register for any service on our website we may request personal information such as your name, email address, contact phone numbers and any other information relevant to the registration. If you are registered on our website, we may use your email address to advise you of any upgrades or changes to these services.

    Although we may publish aggregated information about usage patterns within our company and the Makita group of companies, we do not disclose information about individual machines except for the reasons set out below in this section.

    We do not sell information which identifies you personally. We may gather more extensive information if we are concerned, for example, about security issues. If we think it is necessary, we can disclose information to relevant law enforcement authorities, such as the Police or the Department of Internal Affairs.

  4. Permission to contact you

    We may contact you in relation to any product or service requests you make of our company. We may also use your physical or email address to send regular communications about promotional information. We may run contests or conduct online surveys on our website in which we ask visitors for contact information.

    You can choose not to receive further promotional material or emails from us by withdrawing your consent. To do this, just unsubscribe or contact us and your profile will be updated immediately.

  5. Permission to give certain information to third parties

    Makita may also pass on certain restricted information to its service agents who are external contractors approved by Makita to act as authorised service agents. Makita service agents will be able to search our serial number database for the serial number of any Makita product that you have registered for warranty purposes on our website.

    Makita may also pass on certain restricted personal information to its authorised marketing consultants as part of the Makita database of customers for the purposes of marketing for and on behalf of Makita only.

    Makita reserves the right to transfer your personal information held to any purchaser of Makita provided that the information is to be held and used on substantially similar terms and conditions as set out in this Privacy Policy.

  1. Securing your Information

    When we capture your personal information it is passed through our secure servers to ensure it is protected over the internet. Stored information about you is further protected from unauthorised access through the use of firewalls, secure passwords and sign in processes.

    The data that we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination inside New Zealand (NZ). It may also be processed by staff operating inside NZ who work for us or for one of our suppliers. Such staff may be engaged in, among other things, the processing of your warranty details and the provision of support services. By submitting your Personal Data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy.

    All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers. Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password which enables you to access certain parts of our site, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share a password with anyone.

    Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your Personal Data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our site; any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.

  2. How long will we keep your personal information?

    Makita reserves the right to retain your personal information for a minimum of seven years from the date of collection of the information or from the date of your last activity on our website, whichever is the latter. This is to ensure that Makita is able to respond to any legal claims or defences or for audit, taxation or other legal compliance purposes.

  3. How to access or correct your personal information?

    You have the right at any time to request access to any of your personal information held by Makita and to update or correct that information. In accordance with the Privacy Act 1993, Makita will reserve the right to charge for any material request for retrieval or access to personal information.

  4. Security

    Makita has taken steps to assure that all information collected will remain secure. As such, access to all personal information is strictly controlled and we will take reasonable steps to assure that third parties to whom we transfer any data will provide sufficient protection of personal information.

  5. Use of Cookies

    Makita’s website places a cookie on your computer hard drive if you use our website. This “cookie” is a temporary file which allows Makita to track and target the interests of the user. We may link this information to your Makita customer profile. We may also use this information to improve our website for different customer profiles. However, you have the ability to manage cookies on your computer and you are generally able to disable cookies on your computer if you wish. Please refer to your own computer browser help menu for further information. However, if you disable cookies you will not be able to access particular areas of the site that require you to login, for instance MyMakita or Registering a Makita product for warranty purposes

  6. Changing this policy

    Makita may change this policy at any time by changing or removing existing terms or adding new ones. Changes may take the form of a completely new policy. We will tell you about any changes by posting an updated policy on our website. Any change we make applies from the date we post it on the website. As we plan to keep our statement on privacy current, this information can be subject to change. Please return periodically to review the latest on this Privacy Policy.
